The Innovation Equation: Accelerating Innovative Capacity in Organizations
 
Jacqueline L. Byrd, Ph.D. has focused her life work on understanding organizations and helping individuals within those organizations leverage their capacity for greater organizational and professional success.

Today, Dr. Byrd is president of the Richard Byrd Company, a Minneapolis-based firm serving clients worldwide. She also is the brain child behind Creatrix, a division of the company that provides methods, online tools and resources for individuals and organizations to increase innovation that have been used by thousands of clients worldwide.

The Richard Byrd Company was founded in 1966 by Jacqueline's father, the late Dr. Richard E. Byrd, and continues its original mission of bringing the applied social sciences to business, government and industry. Dr. Byrd assists organizations by consulting on where the business and people issues come together, with a particular focus on helping individuals and organizations increase their innovative capacity. Some of her recent clients include Alliant Techsystems, Inc., the City of Minneapolis, Pentair, 3M, HealthPartners and Region's Hospital, Cargill Inc., Erdman Anthony, Setter Leach & Lindstrom and Life Link III.

As an author and speaker, Dr. Byrd has published and addressed the subjects of leadership, team and board effectiveness, strategies for implementing change, merger and acquisition issues and creating innovative organizations by building the capacity of individuals and teams.

As an educator, she has served on the graduate faculties of several colleges and on the faculty of Capella University. She is currently Adjunct Faculty with the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.

Dr. Byrd received her bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. She received additional training from the National Training Laboratories (NTL) in complex system changes, conflict management and organization change methods, and the National Leadership Institute at the University of Maryland in executive coaching.

Dr. Byrd has been chair of the Board of Family Services Inc. and a member of the Organization Development Network and American Society of Training and Development. She was a Rotarian for many years. She also was a 1998 National Association of Women Business Owners award winner. She is married to Kevin Nickels and a mother to three children, requiring creativity, risk taking and innovation at all times.
